Wanda Ellen Dwyer Obituary

MALONE - Wanda Ellen Dwyer, age 75, of Malone, N.y. passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Malone following a short illness.

Born on Halloween in 1949 in Plattsburgh, New York, Wanda was the beloved daughter of the late Rita and Bernard Dwyer. She grew up in Peru, New York, where she developed the strong, independent spirit that would define her throughout her life. Wanda attended Saint Peters School in Plattsburgh and later Peru Central School.

As the oldest sister, Wanda is survived by her four cherished siblings: Pattee Whalen, Carol Woolums, Brenda Smith (and brother-in-law Paul Smith), and Debbie DeFayette (and brother-in-law Tom DeFayette). She was predeceased by her parents, her brother-in-law John Whalen, and her sister twins, Pamala and Susan. Wanda also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, uncles, and aunts who held special places in her heart.

Nothing was more important to Wanda than family. Her sisters were the center of her world, and she maintained close relationships with her extended family through her thoughtful letters and cards. Her genuine interest in others and commitment to staying connected exemplified her caring nature.

Wanda found great joy in her work at the Sea Way House in Ogdensburg, N.Y. where she touched many lives. When not working, she immersed herself in her hobbies: scrapbooking, reading food magazines, cooking, bowling, and attending church. She treasured dining out and spending quality time with her friends and loved ones.

As an independent and strong self-advocate, Wanda embraced life's challenges with remarkable courage and determination. She taught those around her valuable lessons about living in the present and cultivating meaningful relationships. Her resilience and positive outlook inspired everyone who knew her.

Wanda's friends at Citizen Advocates held a special place in her heart. If she could tell us how she felt about them, she would say that she loved them, that they were the best, and that they helped make her life special.

Funeral Services will be held at Saint Augustine's Church in Peru, New York at 11:00 AM on April 11, 2025, followed by burial. There will be no public visitation hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Wanda's memory may be made to Citizen Advocates, Malone Day Program, 324 Creighton Road, Malone, N.Y. 12953.
