August 24, 1940 - March 25, 2025
Saratoga Springs, NY- Thomas Anthony Filion, 84, died on March 25, 2025, after succumbing to complications of heart failure. Born on August 24, 1940, he was the son of the late Paul Theodore Filion and Mary Donnelly Filion, and brother of Peter D. Filion, now deceased.
Thomas had a wonderful beginning in early life surrounded by family, relatives and friends in northern New York. He had a strong interest in his ancestor's history in Canada and northern New York, where as a youngster he was exposed to the French language every Sunday on his grandparent's farm in Champlain, NY.
Thomas graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1958, then earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the State University College at Oswego. He started his career in Beekmantown Central Schools in Plattsburg, NY where he taught in and served as head of the Industrial Arts Department. During the time Tom earned his Master's degree in Education as well as a Certificate of Advanced Study in Guidance and Administration from SUNY Plattsburg. He retired from Saratoga-Warren BOCES in 1995 after 33 years of service as a teaching and guidance counselor in public education. In retirement, he continued his father's trucking business and worked as a Peace Officer at the Saratoga Race Track. He took great pleasure in singing with The Joytones, a choral group in which he was a dedicated and valued tenor. The chorus comprised of both volunteer and persons diagnosed with early or mid-stage dementia, performed at the annual Capital Region Alzheimer's Conferences and at area retirement centers.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
