Brant Lake- Samuel Morton Hammond 77, died Sunday Jan. 26, 2025 at his home.

Born Oct. 1, 1947 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late George and Livona (Wells) Hammond.

Sam graduated from Horicon Central School in 1965. He received his bachelor's and master's degree from SUNY at Plattsburgh. He was employed by Peru Central School for 33 years as an elementary teacher before he retired from there in 2002.

He was a life member of the NRA and NEA and enjoyed running (jogging), fishing, boating, working on his tree farm and Bible Study as well as writing both prose and poetry.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by his son Darryl Hammond, one sister Effie Holcomb.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Linda (Monroe) Hammond whom he married on October 16, 1965 at The Gore Church in Olmstedville, N.Y., one son Stuart (Melanie) Hammond , one daughter Mechylle Hammond, one brother Richard (Ginny) Hammond, grandson Elijah (Victoria) Hammond-Wood, one granddaughter Sophia Lynn Hammond as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday Feb. 2, 2025 at Horicon Baptist Church State Rte 8 Brant Lake, N.Y. 12815 with Rev. Taylor Callen officiating.

Interment will be in the Spring. Memorials may be made to the North Warren Central School 6110 St Rte 8 Chestertown, N.Y. 12817 for a scholarship in the name Samuel Hammond.
