Russell F. Mesec
Russell F. Mesec, 71, of the Tallman Road, Champlain, went to be with our son Matthew on Oct. 16, 2019.
He was born in Champlain, Feb. 14, 1948, to Felix and Bertha (Belrose) Mesec. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mechelle Raymond Mesec; brothers, Reginald (Debbie), Ronald, and Donald (Debbie); sisters, Veronica LaBombard (William) and Wanda Langley; sisters-in-law, Nancy Mesec, and Caroline Mesec; siblings-in-law, Raymond and Carmelle Monette, Zepher and Mary Raymond, and Claudette Raymond; and many nieces, nephews and God children.
He was predeceased by his parents; our son, Matthew; brothers, Douglas, Darrell, Claudius; sister, Claudette Goldsmith; brothers-in-law, Charles Langley, Richard Gonyo, and Jack Goldsmith; parents-in-laws, Domina and Clarice Raymond; and brother-in-law, Edward Raymond.
Russell attended Champlain Central School until grade 12, and earned his GED in 1990.
He served in the Army from 1966 to 1969. He was in Germany for 10 months then on to Viet Nam for 15 months. He was with the 31st Combat Engineer, and 20th Engineer Brigade. He received an Honorable Discharge, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at the GE plant in Schenectady, and Mesec's Sawmill for many years. He took an early retirement from General Services Administration following 19 years of dedicated service. He also worked at many other jobs for many years. Russ was a "Jack of all trades and he was a Master of all trades." There was nothing he could not do or figure out how to do.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks with Rev. Adrian Gallagher, celebrating. Full military honors will follow outside of the church. A reception will follow with details to be announced at the Mass.
Donations in his memory may be made to the North Country Honor Flight.
