Robert Edward "Bob" LaBounty Obituary

Robert LaBounty, 89, of Keeseville, N.Y., passed away with his loving family by his side on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

He was born in Keeseville, June 28, 1935, the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Barber) LaBounty, the eldest of seven children. Robert graduated from Keeseville Central School in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as Radioman 2nd Class in 1956.

After military service, Robert attended Oswego State University, where he achieved baccalaureate degree in education. He furthered his education by achieving his master's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh. Following his education he was employed by Peru Central School as an Industrial Arts/Technology teacher for 30 years from 1960-1990.

Staying active, Robert worked summers at the AuSable Chasm running the old wooden boats up and down the river for over 15 years.

Robert became interested in Square dancing in 1972 and made it a huge part of his life for over 45 years. He became a caller and started numerous clubs throughout the North Country and Vermont. Most notably was his dedication to the North County Squares. To add to the spice of dancing he organized with dancers many camping weekends and cruises. It is impossible to emphasize the bonds of friendships that developed and that each and every dancer was considered family to Robert and Helena.

Robert was an avid hunter, fisherman and all around outdoorsman. To rejuvenate himself Robert specifically loved spending as much time as he could hunting with his son Tim and the rest of the members of "DALY's HUNTING CAMP."

Robert married the love of his life, Helena Olshewsky, on June 12, 1954, at St. Patrick's parish in Port Henry, N.Y., and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past June.

Robert was predeceased by his parents; his two sons, Robert Jr. and David LaBounty; sisters, Judy Almilli, and Janet Mero, and brother-in-law, Leo Mero; and his only brother, Hubert and his wife, Cora (Arthur) and their eldest son, Mark.

Left to cherish his memory are, his loving and devoted wife Helena; his eldest daughter, Cathleen Steele; son, Timothy; and daughter, Darlene Peeters (Ted); four grandchildren, Kristen Steele and fiance, Tyler Woodward, Tanner Korman (Zuzanka), Joshua Peeters, and Brooke LaBounty; one great-grandchild, Luna Korman; sisters, Mary Anne (Darwin) Bezio, Helena (Ray) Valentini, and Sue LaBounty; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob's family will receive guests, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clement Rimonds, HGN, celebrating. Committal prayers, full military honors, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
