Richard "Dick" Doin, 86, passed away at home with family by his side on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Dick was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Schenectady, N.Y., the son of Mary (Piltman) Doin and Ernest J. Doin. Dick joined the Air Force in 1952 and served through 1956. He was a tail-gunner on bombers and took pride in being a veteran of the Korean War.

Dick attended Sacramento State College in California, Interboro Institute in New York City and graduated from Spencer Business School in 1958 with a diploma in court, convention and conference reporting. Dick started out working for the Department of Labor, the New York City Department of Investigation and various other court reporting agencies.

In 1967, Dick began his career with the NYS Unified Court system working throughout the 4th Judicial District for the Supreme Court before retiring in 1995. He achieved certification as a NYS Certified Shorthand Reporter, received the Certificate of Proficiency, Certificate of Merit and was a Retired Merit Reporter. He served as President of the Northeastern New York Shorthand Reporters Association from 1970-72. He also served on the New York State Shorthand Reporters Association Executive Committee from 1979 to 1986.

Dick felt that he was blessed with a wonderful life. He loved living and boating on Lake Champlain, enjoyed travel to many parts of the world, had a passion for animals with many pet companions throughout his lifetime, enjoyed the company of loving family and wonderful friends. He had a dry sense of humor and always had something to say that would make people smile. For Dick, it has truly been a life well-lived and he will be dearly missed.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, brother Ernest B. Doin (Queensbury), sister Alice St. Louis (New Jersey), brother-in law Donald Reutzel (Sacandaga Lake). He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Suzanne Greene Doin, stepson whom he truly loved as his son, Kristopher Johnson and daughter-in-law Donna O'Sullivan Johnson (Tega Cay, S.C.), sister Carol Reutzel (Sacandaga Lake) and many dear nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Dick's wishes, there will be no services, but rather burial at Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
