Rhoda I. Rabideau Obituary

Rhoda I. Rabideau, 90, of Route 11, passed away peacefully on Feb. 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 11, 1933, daughter of Maynard Labarge and June Cheeseman.

Rhoda married the love of her life, Herman "Diddy" Rabideau, on Aug. 9, 1952, in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Diddy predeceased her on June 11, 2018.

Rhoda began working at Paul & Hogan Insurance Agency in Ellenburg Depot and then went on to work for numerous years as the secretary for the Drown Funeral Home in Ellenburg and later the mausoleum. Following the passing of her son Terry Rabideau in 1994, she retired.

During her younger years, Rhoda enjoyed hunting with her husband Diddy and almost always got the "bigger buck." She loved going for long walks, was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed her trips to various casinos. Rhoda was also an amazing cook and baker. There were always delicious sweets available for anyone stopping by and if she knew you were coming, your favorite sweet was always ready for you to enjoy along with a care package when you left.

Rhoda was a hardworking, devoted daughter, wife, mother, gram, and friend. She will be forever remembered by the memories we shared with her.

Survivors include four children, Danny (Dianne) Rabideau, Duane (Mary) Rabideau, Bonnie (Paul) Marmora, and Penny Pitts (Ken Fortuin); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jane Forkey; Marilyn (Gerald) Gadway; Edith Surprenant; and Marie Trombley; eight grandchildren, Tracy (Todd) Rabideau, Trevor Rabideau (Todd McCarthy), Darcy Rabideau (Melissa LaClair), Taylor Pitts (Edis), Alexis Pitts, Renata Marmora (Drew), Lauren Rabideau, and John Rabideau; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Darbi, Emma, Ellie and Eli; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Terry Rabideau on June 7, 1994; husband, Diddy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlie Trombley, Harold and Shirley Rabideau, Rufus and Rita Rabideau, Jim Forkey, and Robert Surprenant; and niece, Donna Surprenant Coryea.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home, Ellenburg. A funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Entombment will take place in the Town of Ellenburg Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Ellenburg Depot Public Library or the Mooers EMS.

Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.rabideaufuneralhome.com.

Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of her grandson, Trevor, and the Rabideau Funeral Home, 5614 Route 11, Ellenburg.
