Peter Francis Keenan Sr., 94, of Pleasant Street, Peru, died Monday, July 22, 2024, at his home.

He was born in Peru, March 18, 1930, the son of Joseph and Geraldine (Ryan) Keenan. Peter graduated from Peru Central School and Clinton Community College.

He married Maryann King on Dec. 1, 1956. They had four children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was employed for over 70 years in many different jobs, including the Army Signal Corp., a Corrections Officer for New York State Dept. of Corrections, an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus, a school bus driver, an umpire for baseball and softball, a town justice, and a Clinton County Legislator.

He was an active member of St. Augustine's Church and the Peru Knights of Columbus.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Paula (Keith) Dew, Philip (Cheryl), Phyllis, and Peter (Lillian); four grandchildren, Breana Dew, Keely (Kellen) Loughan, Scully Whilhelm, and Henry Wilhelm; great-grandson, Sutter Loughan; three siblings, J. Edward Keenan, Michael Keenan and Geraldine Shadrick; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Betty King, Lincoln and Elaine King, Bernard and Janette King, Loraine Heywood, and Joyce King; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Maryann; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Rivers and her husband, Donald, and Mary Provost and her husband, Robert; brother, William Keenan; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest King, Russell King, Joan King, Gerald King, Richard King, Aurelia McCusker, and Loren Shadrick.

At Peter's request there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, July 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. Christopher J. Looby, parish priest, celebrating. Committal prayers, military honors, and inurnment will follow at St. Augustine's Memorial Columbarium.
