Peru, NY - Michael Vree Morse, of Peru, passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love and connection.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 27, 1955, the son of the late Vreeland and Janet (Covel) Morse. Mike graduated from Peru High School in 1973.

Post graduation, Mike worked various jobs. He was most proud of his work alongside his father; he worked insulating as part of Vree Morse & Son — including many businesses in preparation for the 1980 Olympics.

In 1986, Mike began a long career with the New York State Department of Corrections. After early assignments downstate, he spent 23 years at Bare Hill Correctional Facility, where he built lasting friendships and retired in December 2011.

Mike loved time with his grandchildren and being at his favorite place—camp in Keene Valley. His greatest passion was the people in his life, with a heart that knew no limits. He made others feel seen, brought laughter with ease, and left a lasting mark through his warmth and charm. His memory will bring smiles for years to come.

Left to cherish the memory of Mike are, his two children and their spouses, David and Chelsea Morse, and Michelle and Terrance Sims; four grandchildren, Keene and Kemp Morse, and Isaiah and Hezekiah Sims; his sister, Amy Morse; his former wife, Karen Morse; his longtime girlfriend, Susan Jordan, and several nieces and nephews including Logan Laforest, whom he thought of as a son.

He was predeceased by his siblings Roy C. "Rick" Morse and Marian Morse Peters; and his sister-in-law, Toy C. Morse.

In lieu of calling hours, Michael's family is hosting a celebration of life on his birthday, September 27th, at Ledge Hill North (formally Living Goods/Crickets) from 3 to 6 p.m.
