Mary E. Roach Obituary

It is with a peaceful yet broken heart that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Woodward Keefe Roach at her home on Aspen View at Meadowbrook Healthcare.

Mary was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Glens Falls to Donald and Elizabeth (Tobin) Woodward. Mary graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1953 and Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1956 where she met her lifelong friend and future sister-in-law, Ellie Roach. Mary had a distinguished career as a nurse at CVPH, including several decades in the Operating Room.

Mary married Jack Keefe on April 7, 1958, a union that provided five children. In the 1970's, as life would have it, a no longer married woman, Mary reconnected with a widowed John Roach. Together with John's four children they became a family of eleven. Theirs was a love for the ages. John and Mary modeled a mutual love and respect for nearly 50 years, while raising five sons and four daughters at their home in Peru.

John and Mary were fortunate to travel extensively in their RV during their decades long retirement. From Alaska to Florida to Newfoundland, wherever they went together was a joyful adventure. John passed away in August of 2013 with Mary by his bedside. Partners to the end. She now joins him in Heaven.

Mary is survived by her children, Patrick Keefe, Doreen Keefe, Jim Roach, Donna (Don) Dick, Eileen (Timbal Stanley) Roach and Kathleen (Julie DiCarlo) Roach; her sister, Donna Merlow; her grandchildren, Lenora, Lizzy, Emma, Christina, Aidan, Regan and Kaylee and former daughters-in-law, Lynne Donaldson, Kimmie Vespa; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and the staff at Meadowbrook Healthcare.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; sons, Kevin Keefe, Danny Keefe, John Roach Jr.; her grandson, Timmothy Keefe; son-in-law, Bruce Cornell, daughter-in-law, Nancy Keefe; sisters Peggy Havens and Teresa Jones; brothers-in-law, Rev. Daniel Keefe, James Keefe, Paul Jones, Robert Havens; former husband, Jack Keefe, and sister-in-law Ellie Roach Douglas.

The epitome of kindness and grace, Mary was loving, quick to smile and often found singing. She never lost her joie de vivre. She spent the last five plus years as a resident of Aspen View at Meadowbrook. They loved, nurtured and kept "Mama Mary" safe during Covid and beyond. The family is extremely grateful to all the staff, past and present, across all departments at Meadowbrook for all they do.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 10th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 11th, at 11 a.m. at Saint Augustine's Church in Peru. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
