Keeseville, NY - Mary Edith King, 83, of Jackson Street, Keeseville, died peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh, with her loving husband, daughter and son-in-law, by her side.
She was born in Plattsburgh on March 24, 1942, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Lesperance) Earle. Mary graduated from Keeseville Central High School in 1960. She later graduated from Champlain Valley School of Nursing in 1963 and lastly Plattsburgh State University, December 1988 Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor's in Education.
Mary was a BSRN at CVPH for 41 years. Her career began in Labor and Delivery, then in the ICU and ending as the Director of Education at CVPH until her retirement. She was an EMT for a short time.
Mary was a member of the League of Women Voters, a supporter and member of the Republican party, and a member of the Catholic Community of St. John's where she taught second grade religion classes. She was a former Village of Keeseville Trustee, and was a vocal advocate for senior citizens throughout the North Country.
Mary was a strong supporter of her husband in all of his fire related travels and endeavors. She was also a loving caregiver and guide for her family and cared for her mother for many years.
She had a heart of gold. She was quick witted and put up one hell of a battle to the end.
Left to cherish the memory of Mary are: her loving husband of 57 years (Anniversary was July 20), Jim King; daughter, Anne and her husband, Joey Rice that Mary thought of as her son; sisters-in-law, Sandy (Floyd) Frenia and Sue (Wayne) Lovern; and many extended family members, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her grandparents, maternal, Charles and Rose Lesperance, and paternal, Walter and Ada Earle; her parents-in-law, Alex and Winnie King; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Members of the Nursing Honor Guard will offer the Nurses Prayer and Nursing Tributes at 4:30 p.m., in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow with details to be announced at Mass.
Mary's family would like to thank R4 staff for the wonderful care she received on her final journey.
