Mary Ann Flora Obituary
Plattsburgh, NY - It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Ann Theresa (McGuire) Flora, 89, on March 6, 2026. Mary Ann was a loving spouse, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother, loved by all.
Born Mary Ann McGuire in The Bronx to Irish immigrants Edward and Cecile McGuire on Oct. 15, 1936, as a child she was very close to her brother Mickey and enjoyed playing "street games" with Mickey and their cousins. As a young adult she worked in advertising in New York City, and was proud of the fact that she was the hand model pictured on the very first instant cake mix box. Mary Ann met the love of her life, Joseph Flora, during a visit to the North Country when she was a very young lady, too young to date as she would say. Years later Mary Ann and Joe reconnected, and they married on Jan. 18, 1958. She was proud of her big city roots, and after marrying Joe who grew up in Willsboro, they moved to the North Country; originally in Willsboro, Essex, Westport, Long Lake, and Plattsburgh, before settling in Peru where they raised their five children. She fell in love with the North Country, particularly cherishing time on Lake Champlain; so much so that her children lovingly referred to her as "The Lady of the Lake." She cherished time spent with friends and family over coffee, always with spirited conversation and laughter. Mary Ann also spent years as a dedicated volunteer in the Birthright organization. Faithful to her Catholic upbringing, she was a longtime member at St. Augustine's Catholic church in Peru.
Mary Ann was predeceased by parents Edward and Cecile McGuire, loving husband Joe, and brother Mickey.
Mary Ann is survived by son Jeff (Debbie) Flora of Schenectady, N.Y., daughter Jeanne (Steve) Boutilier of Dayton, Ohio, son Robert (Linda) Flora of Mechanicsville, N.Y., daughter Lisa of Pine City, N.Y., son Mike of Plattsburgh, and grandchildren Jamison (Sarah) Flora, William (Ashley) Boutilier, Christopher Harrison, Erik (Erin) Flora, Renee (Scott) Horcher, Missy Walker, Dan Flora, Colleen (Rocco) Strangio, Ryan Flora, Nick Flora, and 12 great-grandchildren.
