Plattsburgh, NY - Marcia May McDonald, 88, of the Vilas Home and formerly of LaBarre Street, Plattsburgh, died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born at home in Chateaugay, N.Y., April 27, 1938, the daughter of Alfred and Anna Mae (Peets) McDonald.

Marcia was a graduate of Chateaugay Central School Class of 1956. She received her license to practice as a registered professional nurse from Champlain Valley School of Nursing in 1959.

Upon completing her education she began working at Champlain Valley Hospital in Plattsburgh as a Registered Nurse. After a few years working at the hospital she started working for Dr. Leonard Schlesinger, Dr. Henry Freedman, and Dr. Gene Joseph Chorostecki, Urologists in Plattsburgh. After their retirement, she continued to work for urology services in Plattsburgh until her retirement in 1999.

Marcia was a very dedicated McDonald family member always helping to plan the annual family reunion. While her parents were living on Collins Street in Chateaugay, she and her sister, Aggie, came home every weekend, holiday, and special occasion to lend a helping hand and share in the celebration. Her personality and big smile will be missed by many.

She loved traveling and went to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., annually with her parents, Aggie and her friend, Fran Behan.

Marcia is survived by her sister, Agatha McDonald of Plattsburgh, N.Y., sisters-in-law, Irene McDonald of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Luva McDonald of Norwood, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Carlton, Stanley and his wife, Marie; and Rodney; sister, Leatrice Decosse and her husband, Gerald; and nephews, James, Dean and Scott Decosse; and her best friend, Fran Behan.

She was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and a consistent contributor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chateaugay, N.Y. She was an active member of the Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and helped coordinate their annual alumni gathering.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff on R7 at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and the Vilas Home for their excellent care of Marcia.

A private family wake will precede the mass of Christian burial which will be held on Friday, August 28th, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chateaugay, N.Y., followed by burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chateaugay, N.Y.
