Lula Mae (Lozier) Maggy, age 107, born on April 13, 1917., in Black Brook, N.Y., peacefully passed into Eternal Life on Aug. 16, 2024.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest L. and Margaret (Fournier) Lozier; husband, James W. Maggy; brother, Clinton E. Lozier, sisters Alice L. Soper and Beulah L. Van Splinter; daughter, Lorraine M. Johnston; and son-in-law, Jack Johnston.

She leaves behind her grandson, Scott L. Johnston; granddaughter-in-law, Marlene W. Johnston; and great-grandson, Maxwell J. Johnston of Baton Rouge, La,; as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Lula graduated from Peru Central High School in Peru, N.Y., and went on to a 34-year career in the Peru Central school system, where she held the position of Cafeteria Manager. During summer breaks, she worked as a pastry chef at the famed Royal Savage Inn in Plattsburgh, and her love of sweets was enduring. Her baking was one of the many things she was known for, along with knitting beautiful afghans and other handmade creations.

Lula and her beloved husband, Jimmy, were married in 1935 at the Church of the Assumption in Redford, N.Y. They were married for 56 years, making their home in Peru, N.Y. After retirement, they divided their time between Peru and Clermont, Fla. Lula and Jimmy enjoyed boating with family on Lake Champlain, and the time spent and friendships made during their years of traveling in their RV, Western square dancing, playing cards, and golfing.

Ever devoted in her faith, she was a member of St. Augustine's Altar Rosary Society in Peru. Lula always loved being surrounded by her family and friends and the feeling was mutual. In her last months, she'd relocated to Baton Rouge to be close to Scott, Marlene and Max, and we cherished having that extra time together. Remarkably, she was clear-minded up to her last days, and shared stories of the old days, as we hung on her every word. She'll forever be missed for her loving nature and playful sense of humor. We were all incredibly blessed to have had her for so long.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
