Loretta Alice (St. Pierre) Santasier Obituary
Loretta Alice (St. Pierre) Santasier, 61, passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday May 23, 2016 at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center in Glens Falls, NY with her family and friends by her side.
She was born in Claremont, NH, one of six children of Gerard and Edith ( Tutolo) St. Pierre. The family moved to Plattsburgh where Loretta graduated from St. John's Academy and then obtained her Biochemistry degree at Plattsburgh State University a semester early. She met her husband John during college and they moved to Long Island to start a career and family.
She worked as a research associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory and returned to college after 10 years, when the children were in school, to pursue another degree to become a Librarian in the New York Public School system. Loretta excelled in everything she attempted, but loved especially working with children and the teachers, researching the latest technological material for use in the classroom. She was highly regarded by the staff and schools she worked in as a Librarian and received awards for her service.
Upon her early retirement from teaching, she and her husband settled in upstate New York where they built their dream home. She loved her garden, her dogs, Jake and Hunter, and especially helping out her neighbors. She was always canning, cooking and gifting her delicious produce that she grew in her abundant garden. She was an avid painter, cross stitch artist, enthusiastic mountain hiker and loved to go antique shopping when visiting Plattsburgh. Loretta was a special person to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her parents and in-laws.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; her children, Nicholas Santasier, Stephanie Santasier and spouse Paul Bernius; and Loretta's siblings; Raymond St. Pierre, Maria Roberts and husband Michael, Anet Louise St. Pierre, Roseanne Racette and husband Steve, Roy St.Pierre and Wendy (Comtois), along with numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Loretta wished not to have a wake or funeral. She asked to be cremated and her ashes scattered from the top of a mountain at one of her beloved hiking trails.
If you would like to honor her, you can donate to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center in Glens Falls, NY where she was cared for though out her battle by a wonderful staff. To make an on-line donation go to the Glens Falls Hospital webpage at https://www.glensfallshospital.org/Give-to-Glens-Falls-Hospital/foundationform.cfm or if you like, you can donate to your local animal shelter because as her daughter Stephanie said "Mom treated every pet like it was her child."
