Woodruff, SC - LeRoy "Lee" Eugene Brown Jr. died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, in Greenville, S.C., from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was the second child of LeRoy Brown Sr. and Dawn (Vassar), born Feb. 11, 1959, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the town he would spend almost all 66 years of his life.
From an early age, Lee loved sports. Like his father, he was a lifelong New York Giants fan, never faltering in his loyalty to the team. Similarly, he always rooted for the New York Mets. The only other teams he would ever cheer for were those his children played on. He never missed any of their games. In his 30s, Lee coached his sons' traveling little league baseball teams. As the kids got older, he coached their high school and Clinton County Mariners teams, and even installed a batting cage at the house for additional practice. He taught countless young "athaletes" the fundamentals of baseball - many of whom went on to successfully compete at college.
The one thing outside of sports that caught Lee's eye was Debbie. The two met in grade school as family friends and both graduated from Beekmantown Central. They married in September 1978 and raised their four children in the North Country. No matter how far they traveled, Lee always said upstate New York was the most beautiful place he had been.
Lee took great pride in his family's home, one he helped to build. He never missed an opportunity to tell visitors to the Agnew Rd that he built every stonewall bordering the property and that his machinery and tools were always in "mint condition." No matter the season, Lee could be found outside tinkering and staying active: mowing in the summer, hunting in the fall, ice fishing in the winter, and maintaining trails in the back woods in the spring. After a day outside, Lee would joke that he worked more than anyone he knew.
Lee spent his career working for NYS DOCCS, retiring from Clinton Correctional Facility in 2014 after 33 years. While his career was one of significant responsibility and seriousness, Lee was known for his (often inappropriate) sense of humor. He kept his family and friends laughing, and will continue to for years to come.
Lee is survived by his wife, Deborah (Christiana) and children, Nathan and Julissa of Greer, S.C., and their children Nicholas, Sebastian, and Lucas; Adam and Amy of Newbury, England and their children Madeleine and Tristan; Owen and Emily of Old Fort, N.C., and their children, Shiloh and Chester; and Marlee and Wes of Vancouver, Wash. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Shirley (Matott) Brothers of Plattsburgh, N.Y., sisters Debra (Brown) and Randy Russell of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lisa (Brown) Carter-White of Rockledge, Fla., brother Michael Brown, brother-in-law Mark Christiana and Connie Cross of LeCanto, Fla., and sister-in-law Tracey (Brothers) and Scott Frechette of Plattsburgh, N.Y.
Lee was predeceased by his parents, LeRoy and Dawn, his fathers-in-law, Robert Christiana and Orville Brothers, his brother, Mark Brown, and brother-in-law, Michael Brothers.
While Lee is no longer physically present, his reputation will always remain "the baddest man in the whole damned town." You will be missed, Dad.
At the discretion of the immediate family, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date in 2026 in Plattsburgh.
