Ellenburg Center, New York - John Shelley, 83, passed away July 7, 2025, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He had been a patient there since May.
John grew up on West Hill in Ellenburg Center. Later in life, he resided at many Family homes including the Darrahs, Manors, and Fields. They were all very important to him. Until recently falling, John resided on the Alder Bend Road in Altona. He lived there the last few years and very much cared for and enjoyed the people and staff he came in contact with.
John was a true country man. He worked hard on the farm, enjoyed fishing, riding his bike and old country music. He had a big heart for animals.
John was a gentle, kind man who was also known as a bit of a mischief maker. He told many stories of his life: from sliding down hills on car hoods, to coming home to find his bed assembled on the roof. His friends were lifelong.
John does not have any surviving family, but has many who think of him as family. Certainly, John would want to thank Gail and Laurie, for the many years of dedication and friendship.
Rest in Peace John, you will be missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21st, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Edmund's Cemetery in Ellenburg.
