Baldwinsville, NY - Jarrod Jay Collins, 54, of Baldwinsville, N.Y., passed away on June 7, 2025. Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Sept. 4, 1970, he was raised in the quiet mining town of Lyon Mountain, where he developed a deep love for nature and solitude-an appreciation that remained with him throughout his life.
A 1988 graduate of Northern Adirondack Central High School, Jarrod went on to attend SUNY Potsdam, where he pursued his education and discovered a passion for rugby-a sport that reflected his strength, endurance, and adventurous spirit.
An avid outdoorsman, he found peace in the natural world. Whether casting a line in still waters or patiently tracking through the woods, he felt most at home in the quiet company of nature.
Jarrod also cherished time with friends and the joy of a good gathering. He had a fun-loving spirit, a quick wit, and enjoyed a good laugh.
He is survived by his mother, Judith Collins of Lyon Mountain; his brother, Lt. Gen. Heath Collins, wife Julie, and their sons, David and Nathan, of Huntsville, Ala.; and his sister, Janelle Frenyea and her son, Silas Figuereo, of North Adams, Mass.
He is also survived by three step-siblings: James "Jim" Young of Cadyville, N.Y.; Elric Young and wife Tina of Saranac, N.Y.; and Debbie Brinnon and husband David of Springfield, Ohio.
He was predeceased by his father, Roland Collins, and his wife, Gladys Collins, both of Cadyville, N.Y., as well as his stepsister, Tina Berg.
A celebration of life will be held in Syracuse, with a memorial to follow in his hometown. In remembrance of Jarrod, family and friends are invited to spend time outdoors-take a quiet moment by the water or walk among the trees-places he held dear.
His legacy lives on in the stillness of nature, the echo of shared laughter, and in the hearts of all who remember.
