James W. Allen, 88, of Signor Road, Peru, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at the farm he loved.

He was born on June 25, 1936, to parents John and Ruth Allen. Outside the time James served in the military, he was a lifelong resident of Peru, N.Y., in the North Country he cherished.

James married the former Susan D. Straight, June 16, 1962, in AuSable Forks.

James owned and operated Furnace Brook Farms on River Road with his prized herd of registered Holsteins. James was an avid outdoorsman, steward of the land and deeply appreciated the Adirondack region.

Left to cherish the memory of James are his children, Mary Beth Nelson, Tom Allen, Nancy (Tod) Fiege, and Michael (Maria) Allen; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Father Philip Allen, and sister, Catherine McKee.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Susan Allen, his sister, Frances, and his brothers, Norbert and George.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to friends and neighbors who provided meals, visits and support, since his wife passed away.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, from 10 to Noon at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with his brother, Rev. Philip Allen, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to St. Augustine's Soup Kitchen.
