Helen Ward McDonald
Helen (Ward) McDonald, 89, of Jay, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Jay, Tuesday, June 3, 1930, the only child of Ralph and Zoe (Prentiss) Ward. Her mother passed away when she was nine years old.
Helen married Daniel "Mac" McDonald Jr., Saturday, Oct. 8, 1955, in AuSable Forks. Together they raised five children, Scott (Carol), Kevin of Jay, Craig (Bethany) of Plattsburgh, Shelley (Tom) O'Neill of Jay, and Lisa (Craig) Roemer of Toms River, N.J.
She raised her five children before returning to work at the family business, McDonald's Store in Jay. Helen was a 20+ year breast cancer survivor. She was a communicant of Holy Name parish.
In addition to her five children and their spouses she is survived by her grandchildren, Tom (Erin) O'Neill, Erin O'Neill, Matthew McDonald (Rebecca), Dan and Zachary (Lisa) Roemer and three great-grandchildren, Adelyn and Kinsley O'Neill and Gavin McDonald.
Also surviving Helen are her half-brother, Robert Ward and half-sisters, Debbie (Tom) Hackett, Patty Ward, Bonnie (Bryan) Bola, and Cindy (Bill) Casler.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Dan, her father, Ralph, her stepmother Florence and her half-brother, Randy Ward.
At Helen's request there will be no public calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at 9 a.m. at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks with Rev. Kris C. Lauzon, parish priest, celebrating. Committal prayers and burial will be held in the spring in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the AuSable Forks Ambulance Service or the charity of one's choice.
