Harvey J. Boutin Obituary
Harvey J. Boutin, 95, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 2, 2025, into the arms of our Lord under the loving care of his family and Hospice. He was born at home in Mooers Forks, on Sept. 30, 1929, the son of Medric and Laura Boutin. Dad grew up in Mooers Forks and was a parishioner at St. Anne's Church in Mooers Forks and St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point.
Dad worked on the family farm alongside his father and then was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. Corporal Harvey J. Boutin proudly served 18 months of active duty from March 14, 1952, to Feb. 26, 1954, at Camp Bussac, France. He was honorably discharged on the 13th day of May 1960.
On August 7, 1954, Harvey was united in marriage to the love of his life, Theresa P. Hebert at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. They celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Upon returning from the service, Harvey worked for his Uncle Wallie Wellette at Wellette and Gilpin's Hardware Store in Rouses Point. He then worked as a Laborer/Meter Reader for the Village of Rouses Point. On Aug. 15, 1967, while working for the village, he was involved in a cave-in and was given less than a 5% chance of recovering from several life threatening injuries. After many months of recovery and determination, Harvey returned to his job at the village and retired in 1991 after 25 years of service.
Dad had to leave school to work with his father on the family farm and was not able to finish his education. Robb Garrand, District Superintendent of Northeastern Clinton Central School and Stephen Southwick, President of the school board presented Dad with the first honorary high school diploma in the district to which Dad was very proud of.
Left to cherish his memory are his son Michael and wife Cynthia Boutin of Euless, Texas; and his three daughters Katherine and husband Larry Brown, Karen and husband Calvin Coulombe and Bevera Gravelle all of Rouses Point. Harvey is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Amanda and husband Michael Mejia of Fort Worth, Texas, Emily and husband Ben Shank of Dallas, Texas, Madeline and husband Patrick Fogarty of Plano, Texas, Jessica and husband Patrick Girard of Sacramento, Calif., Melissa Peck and fiancé Kelsey Norwood of Peru, Christina Deso (who was always referred to as his fifth child) of Champlain, Nicholas Benjamin of Rouses Point and Sara and Andrew Lavalley of West Chazy. Harvey is also survived by his eight great-grandchildren, Lucas and Hunter Fogarty, Lane Girard, Lydia and Kelsey Norwood, Ryan Brown, Isabella, Eaven and Sophia Deso and Parker and Cole Lavalley. Also surviving him are his two sisters, Evelyn LaValley of Kenmore, N.Y. and Sylvia Scriver of Mooers Forks and one brother, Frank Boutin of Mooers Forks as well as several nieces and nephews.
Harvey was predeceased by his loving wife, Theresa on June 30, 2021, his parents, Medric and Laura (Wellette) Boutin, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Maurice and Ida (Lavalley) Hebert, brother-in-laws, Homer Lavalley and Robert Scriver and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alfred and Virgina Hebert.
His family finds peace in the belief that after his passing, angels safely accompanied him on his journey to his eternal home, where he was greeted by the saints and those loved ones who preceded him in death. He will be in God's presence for eternity.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Hospice of the North Country, especially to his nurse, Jenn Fuller who took excellent care of our Dad with great compassion, Dr. Aaron Esterson and the entire staff at Hudson Headwaters Healthcare in Champlain for their excellent care. Also, heartfelt thanks to the employees of the Village of Rouses Point who were always there to assist our parents in their times of need.
Visitation with family and friends will be on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point at 10:00, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00. A reception will follow in the church basement. A Celebration of Life and date of burial will be announced at a later date.
Rest easy, our beloved Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. You will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. We love you to the moon and back and all around.
We ask you to use your voice for kindness, your ears for compassion, your hands for charity, your mind for truth and your heart for love.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Harvey's memory be made to Hospice of the North Country, St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point, or The Rouses Point Fire Department.
