Gertrude H. Schmitt
Gertrude H. (Hayward) Schmitt, 93, formerly of Corlear Drive, Willsboro and Marco Island, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.
She was the first birth at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, Tuesday, April 27, 1926, the daughter of Wardner Joshua and Anne (Holley) Hayward. She grew up in Willsboro and graduated from Willsboro High School and later graduated Valedictorian from Middlebury College with a Bachelor's Degree.
Gertrude was a proud member of the local Red Hat Society, an avid golfer, enjoyed theater, and was known as a culinary expert.
Left to cherish the memory of Gertrude are, three children, Frank, Holley, and Craig Schmitt; seven grandchildren, Michael, Dmitriy, Eric, Caitlin, Ryan, Joshua, and Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Logan and one great-granddaughter on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert Schmitt; and siblings, Marjorie and Virginia.
A funeral service will be held on Nov. 12, 2019, at 7 p.m. at the Willsboro United Methodist Church. Burial in the Lakeview Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Willsboro Fire Dept.
