George T. Sheelar Obituary

George T. Sheelar passed away on April 19, 2022, in Watertown, Conn., with his loving wife Rose at his side.

He was born on March 23, 1925, in South Barre, N.Y., to Joseph C. and Kathleen (McMahon) Sheelar.

He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1943 until March 1946 and was honorably discharged as a Phm 3/C. He served aboard the USS President Jackson (APA-18) in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

He retired from Niagara Mohawk Power Co., April 1987, after serving 29 years.

George was active in the community as a volunteer for the Malone Adult Center and Meals on Wheels. He sang in the church choir and assisted at funeral Masses at Notre Dame Church.

He was predeceased by his father; mother; sisters, Marie Anthony, Anna Jakaub, Dorothy Calby, Helen Dobrovolsky and brothers, Joseph, Daniel, Vincent, Gerald, Richard, John and Leo.

He leaves his wife, Rose M. Sheelar whom he married in 1949. He also leaves daughters, Patricia Beedy of Malone, N.Y., and Rebecca Sciacca (Sam) of Oxford, Conn.; sons, Thomas (Sherri Clark) of Houston, Texas, and David (Denise) of Bridgewater, N.J.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church on Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Notre Dame Cemetery.
