Palm Coast, FL - Dr. Francis (Fran) C. Evans Jr. passed away peacefully on May 14th, 2025, at the age of 86 years. He will be greatly missed.

He was born Dec. 12th, 1938, and spent his early life in Staten Island, N.Y., the eldest child of Elsa (Rogers) Evans and Francis C. Evans Sr.

Fran attended Princeton University and Harvard Medical School, choosing a career in surgery before marrying Karen Fox of Lexington, Mass. His medical career took him to Hartford, Conn., Vietnam, and Ticonderoga, N.Y., before settling in New London, N.H. He was proud to earn the rank of major with the U.S. Army Medical Corps at the 27th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in Chu Lai, of his tenure as Chief of Surgery at New London Hospital from 1978 to 1998, and his many leadership roles in the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association. He was a family man, travel enthusiast, Red Sox superfan, train lover, and theater aficionado.

Karen predeceased Fran, and he later married Susan Foster. He continued his career, advising in legal matters and practicing in Georgia, Florida and New Hampshire. Susan and Fran shared 27 happy years of travel, adventure, and companionship, eventually retiring in Palm Coast, Fla.

He is survived by many loved ones - his wife Susan Foster Evans of Palm Coast, Fla., his siblings Rosemary Garr, Roger Evans, and Priscilla Evans, his three grandchildren Meghan Fortier Loring, Devon Anne Fortier, and Jared Evans Fortier, his great-niece Samantha Foster and his three children, Susan Evans Fortier, Amy Eleanor Evans, and David Russell Evans.
