Floyd R. Collins Obituary
Floyd R. Collins, born March 10, 1953, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Jan. 17, 2024. Floyd's journey began when he left home at the age of 16 to work in the mines alongside his brother, Herbert Collins, who survives him. Together, they were instrumental in running a drill crew responsible for boring tunnels for the subway system in New York City and Harvard Square in Boston, Mass. They also completed a remarkable feat by drilling a tunnel
under the Atlantic Ocean for a hydro power plant.
Returning home, Floyd and Herbert joined their brother, Patrick W. Collins, in operating his logging company. The trio was affectionately known in their community as the "Three Stooges," always seen together and living their best lives. Their adventurous spirit was well-known and
cherished in their small town.
In later years, Floyd transitioned to the automobile industry, establishing his own business in selling and repairing cars. His passion for classic cars was a notable aspect of his life, and he took great pleasure in collecting them. Floyd's reputation for wheeling and dealing made him a prominent figure across the North Country.
Beyond his business ventures, Floyd had a profound interest in growing medicinal plants and believed in the herbal properties of these plants well before their time. His dedication to this hobby reflected his forward-thinking nature and deep appreciation for natural remedies.
Despite his success in the car business, Floyd's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his son, Jeremy Collins and his wife, Nicole McMullen Collins, and their children, Hunter William Collins and Sean Michael Collins. Floyd's true pride and joy were his grandsons, Hunter and Sean, with whom he loved spending summers on Chateaugay Lake. He
was known for his unwavering dedication to his family and his generous spirit.
He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, Nanette Hebert (married to Arthur Hebert) and Patricia Cook, for his vibrant party spirit and grandiose love of life. His great-nephews, Patrick W. Cook and Douglas R. Cook, will always cherish his craftiness, humor, wisdom and joyful smile.
Floyd's legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
