Evelyne Skopp Obituary

Evelyne Skopp (née Schaudt), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Dec. 5, 2024 at the age of 85. Born on July 31, 1939, in southern Germany, Evelyne lived a life full of love, compassion, and strength.

She married Douglas Skopp of Los Angeles, California, and together they shared over 50 years of a loving and enduring marriage. Evelyne and Douglas moved to Plattsburgh in 1972 to begin working at the SUNY-Plattsburgh, where they become institutions in the community and known for their kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication. A beautiful article about Evelyne and Douglas and their early histories can be found at https://www.pressrepublican.com/news/local_news/when-doug-met-evelyne/article_b0887df3-e558-57b3-8676-36ddae7b0463.html.

Evelyne's life was marked by her deep commitment to her family. As a mother, she provided a nurturing and supportive environment, guiding her only child, Andrew, with wisdom, patience, and love. She was also a proud grandmother of five, Mitchell, Elliot, Drew, Theodore, and Nicholas, often imparting her values of kindness, hard work, and resilience with amusing anecdotes or German sayings.

In addition to her role in the registrar's office of the College, Evelyne was known for her passion for classical music, reading, knitting, and cooking, and her ability to make those around her feel special. Her kindness touched everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by Douglas who passed away in May, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Doug and Evelyne Skopp Memorial Holocaust Gallery at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Evelyne's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dale and Jim Walsh for their compassionate care during her final days. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
