Livermore, CA - Eleanor A. Tart, 98, passed away on May 3, 2026, peacefully with her family by her side.

She was born in Dannemora, N.Y., on Nov. 29, 1927, the daughter of Edward Ayotte and Elizabeth (Mousseau) Ayotte.

Eleanor graduated from Dannemora High School and Mildred Elley Business School. She met the love of her life, William O. Tart, in Albany, N.Y., and they were married on Nov. 20, 1949.

Eleanor worked for more than 25 years as a senior stenographer with the Plattsburgh Housing Authority, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism.

In her retirement, Eleanor became a dedicated volunteer at the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf. A loving and devoted wife and mother, she always made time to serve her faith, her family, and community. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Peter's Church and a long standing member of the St. Peter's Rosary Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters.

Eleanor was also a dedicated supporter of Catholic education, with a special commitment to St. John's Academy, Seton Catholic, and Siena College.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, William O. Tart; her son, William O. Tart Jr.; and her sisters, Marion Sampson, Dorothy Brennan Preston, Madeline Cox, and Helen Perz.

She is survived by her daughters, Michele Pendergraft (Thomas, deceased) of Fredericksburg, Va., and Suzanne May (Duncan, deceased) of Livermore, Calif.; and her daughter-in-law, Michelle Gerka of Syracuse, N.Y.

She was a proud grandmother to three granddaughters: Courtney (Tom) Pomrink, Lindsay (Jeffrey) Calabrese, and Lindsey Helmer Hazelton. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Charlie, Henry, and Georgia Pomrink; Jeffrey Jr., Eleanor, and William Calabrese; and Will and Jack Hazelton.

Eleanor is further survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, Sept. 21st, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Eleanor's ashes will be interred in the St. Peter Columbarium.
