Clevice "Fuzzy" Fesette Obituary

Plattsburgh, New York - Clevice "Fuzzy" Fesette, a man whose life was defined by unwavering dedication, spirited mentorship, and a deep commitment to community, passed away on July 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished. Born on Oct. 2, 1935, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Fuzzy was the son of Nicholas and Madeline Fesette, whose guidance set him on a path of service from an early age.

A 1953 graduate of St. John's Academy, Fuzzy's journey continued immediately after high school when he answered the call to serve his country, dedicating four years to the United States Marine Corps. His time in the service instilled in him the values of discipline and perseverance, qualities that would become hallmarks of his later career.

Embracing his love for athletics, Fuzzy attended Western Kentucky University where he played basketball before transferring to Albany Business College. There, he not only furthered his education but also continued his playing career, earning a degree that would serve as a foundation for a life of leadership both on and off the field.

Soon after returning to Plattsburgh from college, Fuzzy met the love of his life, Judy Fisher. In 1962, they were married in her hometown of Tarrytown, N.Y. They moved to Plattsburgh and enjoyed a 62-year marriage filled with love, laughter, and mutual support, a testament to their partnership.

Fuzzy's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. He returned to his hometown and embarked on a distinguished career with the New York State Department of Corrections at Dannemora and Altona, where he served for 30 years until retiring in 1989. At the same time, his passion for sports shone brightly as he joined the coaching staff at his alma mater, St. John's Academy. For more than 20 years, he led the football, basketball and baseball teams; earning a reputation as an old-school coach whose dedication and tough love molded generations of young athletes.

Community service was a cornerstone of Fuzzy's life. In the 1970s, he served as the Town of Beekmantown assessor and Town Justice, roles through which he demonstrated his commitment to civic duty. His devout faith was equally significant to him. He faithfully served as a lector and gave time and ideas to his parish council.

Fuzzy was a true sportsman at heart. Beyond the basketball court and baseball diamond, he found joy in fishing, hunting, cycling, and skiing - activities he enjoyed with friends and family. His unique way of making people feel good, often by pulling pranks and sharing a hearty laugh, endeared him to friends.

After retiring from the NYS Department of Corrections, Fuzzy channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into Kleen Kut Lawn Service, a business he operated for 15 years. Even during this phase, he remained committed to giving back; later in life, he volunteered for 15 years at the FitzPatrick Cancer Center at UVM/CVPH, where his caring nature touched the lives of many.

Fuzzy is survived by his wife Judy and three beloved sons, Dan (Sheila), Neil (Connie), and Gregg (Ellen) — as well as six grandchildren: Nick, Emily, Reagan, Rylee, Ella, Reid, and his great-grandchild Frannie. He is also fondly remembered by his niece and nephew, Laura and Andrew Koepfler.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Plattsburgh; burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery with full military honors.

Clevice "Fuzzy" Fesette's life was a tapestry woven with threads of service, mentorship, love, and laughter. His enduring legacy will live on in the hearts of those he coached, the colleagues he served with, the community he enriched, and the loving family he built with Judy. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fuzzy's name to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center or Seton Catholic School.
