Carlton "Carl" Blow Obituary

Carlton "Carl" Russell Blow, 94, formerly of Ellenburg Center, passed away at his home in Palm Coast, Fla., on Feb. 12, 2024, surrounded by family members and friends, and aided by the care of Gentiva Hospice.

Carl was born in Ellenburg, N.Y., on April 1, 1929, and was the son of Merritt and Mary Ann (Cook) Blow.

Among Carl's many skills and jobs, he worked on the family farm in Merrill, N.Y., as a younger man, including as beekeeper with his father. He also worked in the Winooski, Vt., mills along with his sister, Katherine and they would travel by train to and from Ellenburg Depot on the weekends. Carl worked on a potato farm in Franklin County, helped build the St. Lawrence Seaway, and then honed his skills, and became a sought-after vehicle mechanic in Ellenburg, Plattsburgh and Wassaic, N.Y.

Carl married Joan Herring on May 27, 1983, and they soon moved to Florida for retirement and warmer weather. Carl enjoyed his vegetable garden, caring for his roses and poinsettias, and took great pride in his lawn work as well. One of his pastimes was watching baseball when he would cheer for anyone except the Yankees. In his later years, he would enjoy sitting outside of his Florida home, passing the time by talking to neighbors and watching over their homes, thus earning him the nickname "Mayor of Flamingo Drive." Carl and Joan enjoyed social gatherings with their friends and family, as well as attending "Travel Destination" presentations.

Carl is survived by his combined family of 11 children, Roger (Eileen) Blow, Sr. Deborah Blow, O.P. (Sr. M. Stephanie Frenette, O.P.), Dianne (Danny) Rabideau, Terry Blow (Amber Heron), Karen King, Kathy (Bernie) Whalen, Laurie (Jim) Fezette, Ricky (Melissa) Blow, Timothy (Laura) Blow, Tammy Becker, Donald (Carol) Herring; sister-in-law, Gena Blow; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Carl was predeceased by his wife, Joan Blow; his parents; three sisters, Doris (Ernest) Hebert, Helen (Roland) Miller and Katherine Blow; five brothers, James Blow, Roland Blow, William (Sis) Blow, Marvin (Pat) Blow, and Henry Blow; son-in-law Chris King; great-granddaughter Chloe King; and Shirley Prevo.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 29th, at 1 p.m. in St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville.
