Arthur Joseph Bylow Obituary
Raleigh, NC - Arthur Joseph Bylow, a man of profound kindness and thoughtful nature, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Raleigh, N.C., at the age of 91. Arthur was born on Jan. 20, 1935, in Barre, Vt., to the late Vivian and Merle Bylow.
Arthur's early years in Barre laid a strong foundation for a life of learning and discovery. Arthur proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He carried the spirit of his hometown with him as he pursued higher education at the University of Vermont, where he earned a degree in Analytical Chemistry. His academic achievements were just the beginning of a distinguished career that saw him retire from Ayerst/Wyeth Labs in Rouses Point, N.Y.
Arthur's professional life was matched by a personal life rich in love and joy. He was the cherished husband of Joan Bassford Bylow, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Tim Bylow, with his wife Tiffani of Raleigh, N.C., and Dina Auyong, with her husband Gerard of Honolulu, Hawaii. Arthur's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, and Carly Auyong, who will remember their grandfather for his endless support and gentle guidance.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his sister Carole Martel and her husband Howard of Barre, Vt., and many nieces and nephews.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Leona Bassford, his brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Marie Bylow, and his nephews, Todd and Scott Martel and Brent Bylow.
Beyond his family and career, Arthur was a man of diverse interests and remarkable talents. A voracious reader, he amassed a personal library of over 600 books. His passion for literature was matched by his love for the outdoors; he completed 5 marathons, numerous 10K races, and found solace in mountain climbing and skiing. These pursuits were not mere hobbies but reflections of a man who embraced life with vigor and determination.
Those who knew Arthur will remember him as a loving husband, a devoted father, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend. Arthur's life was a beacon of how to live with grace, how to love with depth, and how to leave the world a better place.
As we bid farewell to Arthur Joseph Bylow, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of love, and a journey that has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
