Morrisonville, NY - Anthony "Tony" Edgar Hemingway, 82, of Morrisonville, N.Y., passed away at home in the early morning hours on July 5, 2026, following a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Hospice of the North Country.

Tony was born on New Year's Day, 1944, at Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to Edgar and Lillian Hemingway of Altona. He grew up on the family farm, developing a strong work ethic, which continued throughout his lifetime. He was the youngest of eleven children and spent his younger years working the farm. He attended Altona High School before going into the highway construction trade.

Driven by his family roots and a deep love for farming, he purchased a farm in Mooers Forks in 1980. He operated it with pride and joy before returning to the construction industry in 1986. He was a heavy highway superintendent for Luck Bros., Inc. before retiring in 2004.

Tony was happiest in the woods at his camp in Altona with his sons, doing what he loved most, hunting, and fishing and in his younger years, trapping. He also loved cruising and fishing the waters of Lake Champlain and the Intracoastal Waterway of South Florida. While undergoing chemotherapy in the fall of 2024, Tony bagged the biggest buck of his life, weighing in at 198 pounds. Tony and Jamie found a wonderfully close community of friends in Jensen Beach, Fla., with whom he spent many a fun-filled winter and spring.

Tony and Jamie recently checked a major milestone off their bucket list, driving cross-country in a motorhome. Leaving Florida this past April with no set itinerary, they simply meandered across the country for six weeks, visiting iconic landmarks, national parks, and catching up with family and friends along the way.

As a lifelong New York Yankees fan, his favorite player was always Mickey Mantle.

We cannot fail to mention his canine companion, Champ, who brought him love and comfort until the very end.

Tony is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jamie (Luck) Hemingway; sons, Donald Hemingway of Mooers Forks, and Mark and Penny Hemingway of Chateaugay; grandchildren, Amanda Hemingway, Kyle Rabideau, AJ Hemingway and Katie Haselton; eight great-grandchildren; siblings-in-law, Ted (Linda) Luck, Cindy (John) Mayette, Jeff (Denise) Luck, Kristi (David) Longino, Jodi (Gary) Morrow, and Chris (Sue) Luck; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Laura Rabideau; granddaughter, Michele Hemingway; grandson, Justin Rabideau; daughter-in-law, Sarah Hemingway; ten siblings, Valeda Savage, Joseph Hemingway, David Hemingway, Harry Hemingway, Leo Hemingway, Pearl Moore, Kenneth Hemingway, Bertha Armstrong, Shirley Arquette, and Catherine Hemingway; and parents-in-law, James and Marilyn Luck.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

We would not have been able to fulfill Tony's wish to die at home without the help of his Hospice angels, Becky, Jenn, Ashley, Hailea and especially Jessica who was with him at the time of his death.
