Antonio J. Gagliardi, 99, of Lake Forest, Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Plattsburgh Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was born in Astoria, N.Y., May 6, 1925, the son of Pasquale and Pasqua Gagliardi.

Tony worked for American Export Airlines as an airplane mechanic at LaGuardia Field prior to joining the United States Navy in 1943. While serving in the Pacific Theater he witnessed the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged as a Fire Controlman Third Class. Tony returned to New York City where he began working for the City of New York Street Lighting Division, eventually retiring as a Superintendent. He moved to the North Country to take a job with Pole Light Industries in Quebec in the mid-1980s.

Tony was a member of Honor Flight, the Busy B's, American Legion Post 20, Our Lady of Victory Church, Knights of Columbus, YMCA and many others. He was always true to his faith and country. After losing his vision many years ago he took up dance and decided life would not get him down. He will be remembered by those who loved him for his kindness, generosity, patience and sense of humor.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, his wife Ruth, a daughter Patricia; his siblings, James and Gloria.

He is survived by a son, Anthony Gagliardi and his wife Patti of Long Island; his grandchildren, Anthony Vuplis, Thomas Gagliardi and his wife Danielle, Joseph Gagliardi and his wife Melissa, Paul Gagliardi and his wife Alina, Ashley Jennette and her husband David, Jessica McNeil and Timmy McNeil; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Gianna, Victoria, Angelina, Mia, Michael, Shannon, Liana, Cruz, Mason, William, Wyatt, Eden and Madelyn; several nieces, nephews and many special friends also survive him.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Mary's of the Lake Cemetery on Cumberland Head.

Donations in Tony's memory may be made to the North Country Honor Flight.
