Walter F. Mitchell, 93, of the Union Road, Peru, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh.
He was born on the Patent, March 5, 1923, the son of Arthur F. and Mary E. (Ryan) Mitchell. He grew up on BuckHill, and graduated from high school in Ausable Forks.
Among the jobs he held were, Schaefer beer delivery driver for Plattsburgh Distributing Company, bartender at the Midway in Clintonville, custodian at SUNY Plattsburgh, and a mold technician in the foundry at A. Schonbek in Plattsburgh until his retirement.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, working in the woods, picking blueberries on the Flat Mountain, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He was also an active member of the Catholic Community of Keeseville.
Left to cherish the memory of Walter are, two sisters-in-law, Virginia C. Mitchell of Keeseville, and Ann M. Mitchell of Westport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Esther M. Warner of 18 years. They were married at St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville on Jan. 19, 1957. He was also predeceased by his parents, Arthur F. and Mary E. (Ryan) Mitchell of Ausable Forks; sister, Marie E. Fitzgerald of Ausable Forks; six brothers, Harold H. (Florence) of Morrisonville, Raymond J. (Grace) of Cohoes, Robert J. of Keeseville, Leo E. of BuckHill, Daniel R. (Mildred) of Plattsburgh, and Gerald A. of Westport; parents-in-law, William and Lena (Duell) Warner of Keeseville, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Special appreciation goes to Michael and Kelly Woodside of Peru for their long-time friendship and unwavering support through the last several years of his life and to the staff at CVPH for their loving and compassionate care.
Relatives and friends may call from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, March 6, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Rev. Kris C. Lauzon, parish priest, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.
