Virginia McBride, 85, of New Hampshire Road, Plattsburgh, N.Y., and formerly of Troy, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility with her loving family by her side. She was born in Troy, N.Y., on Sept. 26, 1931, to Joseph F. and Antoinette A. (Appio) Manory. Ginny was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Agnes Manory, Joseph F. Manory, Anthony V. Manory and Eleanor Sweeney. She'd recently experienced the loss of her husband of 61 years, William J. "Bill" McBride Sr., and her son, William J. "Billy" McBride Jr.
Virginia graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy in 1949 and from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1953 at a time when few women were pharmacists. Her graduation began a three-generation family legacy at the Albany College of Pharmacy, continuing with her daughter Maureen Enos and her husband Ed Enos, and most recently with her granddaughter, Carolyn Enos, who graduated in 2016.
Virginia began her career as a pharmacist at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. In 1970, she and Bill moved their young family to Plattsburgh, where Ginny was an active volunteer in the community. She resumed working as a pharmacist at CVPH Medical Center, was a member of St. Peter's Church, and enjoyed serving on the Plattsburgh Air Force Base Women's Liaison Committee for many years.
Ginny was a sweet soul who went out of her way to check on and care for friends and neighbors who needed help. She was a beloved member of the Plattsburgh community who enjoyed traveling with her husband, and spending time with family and friends, especially her cherished grandchildren.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Maureen Enos and her husband Ed of Clifton Park, N.Y., a son, Brian McBride of Plattsburgh, five grandchildren: Dr. Katherine Enos of Greenville, S.C., Carolyn Enos, Pharm.D and Joey Enos of Clifton Park, Madison McBride and Bradford McBride of Peru, N.Y., daughter-in-law, Scarlett McBride of Peru, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, at St. Peter's Church, Plattsburgh, N.Y., for both Ginny and her late husband Bill, who passed away March 27, 2017.
