Thomas J. "Tom" McGuire, 78, of the Peasleeville Road, Schuyler Falls, died Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh.
He was born in Manhattan, June 16, 1938, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Owens) McGuire.
Tom loved the outdoors and camping. He was a Boy Scouts of America leader for troop 22, and had hiked the entire Adironacks with his scouts. Tom attended the bluegrass festival in Plattsburgh every year with his family and friends. He worked at Airborne Speedway with his wife, Gail, on weekends; he loved the racing. Tom was a great friend to all who met him. His family were his pride and joy. Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until 1959. Following hid Honorable Discharge, he became a bridge painter and painted the Golden Gate Bridge and Twin Towers. After that he went into business with his son, Thomas McGuire Jr. (Tom McGuire Painting). At the time of his death he was still self employed painting at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Survivors include his wife, Gail (Perrault) McGuire; siblings, a brother, Christopher and ViVi McGuire of City Island Bronx, N.Y.; and a sister, Juliette DeLong of Fairbanks, Alaska; children, Jeanine McGuire Slocum (significant other, Armin Kapahnke) of Brookfield, Conn., Cheryl (and Brad) Rockhill of Moira, N.Y, Robin George (Fiance', Jon Reynolds) of Hilton, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his son, Thomas J. McGuire Jr.; brothers, Lawrence McGuire (infant), James McGuire, Patrick McGuire; and a sister, Lily McGuire Bryant.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will follow at 7 PM in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Timothy J. Luoma, officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury, Conn.
