Suellen Botsford, 71, of Dacula, Ga., and formerly of Keeseville, died on Monday, April 10, 2017, at her home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1945, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Her parents were Richard and Thelma Botsford, who also lived in Keeseville.
Suellen attended Keeseville schools and St. Mary's School for Girls in Peekskill, N.Y., from where she graduated. She received her degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington. She taught school for a short time and worked for the Burlington Free Press before joining the Press-Republican where she was a skilled reporter and contributing writer for nearly 40 years. She received many awards for her reporting. She was an avid stock-car racing fan, and worked part-time at several local race tracks while she still resided in New York.
On July 17, 1982, she married John Neveu. They were married one day short of their 30th wedding anniversary, when John died on July 16, 2012. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and her father-in-law, Leon Neveu.
Suellen is survived by her son, Botsford Finnegan and his wife, Misty, and their two children, Teagan Finnegan and Dylan Annis, all of Dacula; and her mother-in-law, Thelma Neveu of Plattsburgh.
She is also survived by a cousin, the Rev. Molly Comeau of Alburg, Vt., and several more cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 2, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A private burial will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
In keeping with her love of animals, the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following organizations: The Cody Fund c/o The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia (www.cfneg.org), which provides funds to purchase police canines and their equipment, or The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine (vet.uga.edu/giving/fundlisting).
