Russell's Story

Russell "Rusty" Wilson of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., a retired Lieutenant for the New York State Department of Corrections, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, June 5, 2017, in Wallkill, N.Y. He was 76.
The son of the late Randolph Wilson and Lena Wilson, he was born July 26, 1940, in Lyon Mountain, N.Y. Rusty honorably served in the U.S. Air Force before serving 30-plus years with the Department of Corrections. Rusty faithfully served his local community in retirement by volunteering at the Wallkill Fire Department and St. Benedict's Church. He loved returning to Lyon Mountain and supporting the American Legion, St. Bernard's Church and Lyon Mountain Mining and Railroad Museum.
Survivors include his son, Randy Wilson of Greenwich, Conn., and daughter, Nancy Wilson of Wallkill, N.Y. Russell's five sisters, Kathleen Scott, Gail Wilson, Phyllis Wilson, Carol Buksa, and Jeanette Couture survive him, along with their extended families, whom he loved with all his heart. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Keith Wilson and nephew, Steven Wilson.
A funeral Mass and burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3, at St. Bernard's Church, 10 Church Pond Rd., Lyon Mountain, NY 12952. A celebration will follow afterwards at The American Legion Post 1623. Please donate in Rusty's memory to the American Legion or Mining Museum in Lyon Mountain in lieu of flowers.
