Robert E. Stoneberger of Dickson Point Road, Plattsburgh, N.Y., died at UVM/CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh on Friday, March 10, 2017.
He was born in Shreveport, La., on June 18, 1926, to Daniel Ralph Stoneberger and Lola Evelyn Owston. During his senior year in high school (1944) he joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Bonhomme Richard serving with the 7th Fleet in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.  When the war ended, he married Jeanne Schroeder and joined Boeing Aircraft in Seattle before returning East to join the heavy electrical industry where he rose to Executive Vice-President of Nat Harrison Associates in Miami, Fla.
In 1973, he founded Robstone Company to provide the same services in the US, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. An accomplished sailor, he spent many wonderful hours with his friends aboard The Library, a 43 ft Columbia racing sloop.  He was a member of the Harwood Masonic Lodge in Maine and rose through the 33rd degree becoming a member of the Shriners Club in Miami, where he devoted many volunteer hours to children's amusements.  He belonged to the Miami Bankers Club and LaGorce Country Club in Miami Beach where he was the official Santa Claus for many years, landing on the 18th hole by helicopter to the amazement of children and adults alike.  He moved to Plattsburgh in 1999 with his wife of 49 years, Jacqueline (Hébert) of Hemmingford, Quebec.  He participated in the North Country Honor Flight to Washington in 2013 to honor WWII veterans and he enjoyed the friendships at the Plattsburgh Noon Kiwanis Club.  He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; his beloved sisters, Donna Griffin of Vero Beach, Fla., and Carol Whitlock
(Darrell) of Round Rock, Texas.  His brother, James, predeceased him in 1997.  Left to mourn are his sons, Robert Eugene Jr. (Nancy Young), Daniel William (Ingrid Gunther) and Nicholas Vaughn (Elizabeth Larsen) and his daughter, Jamie Leigh (Paul Loper), ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on March 16th at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Fla.  Absolutely no flowers please. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Robert E. Stoneberger Mathematics Prize Fund at Beekmantown High School, 37 Eagle Way, West Chazy, NY 12992 where, to his great delight, he proudly received his honorary high school diploma during the 2014 commencement ceremonies.  Online condolences and memorial candles may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
