After 97 years, our family is deeply saddened to announce that Bob was called home Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017. Robert was born Nov. 27, 1919, son of Alfred Laidman and Dorothy(Loose)Laidman.
To say that Bob was an extraordinary man feels like an understatement; in his presence you always felt truly loved. Bob's kindness, eternal optimism and joy for life knew no bounds, even at his advanced age that smile never left his face. We find great solace that he has once again joined the love of his life, Elizabeth, who passed in November 2014 after 67 years of marriage. Bob and Liz shared an extraordinary marriage full of love, adventure, trips, and a profound love for their six children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob served his country in World War II and was in a small group of vets still alive from that war. After his service, Bob went on to own a carpet installation business in Vermont for many years. In retirement Bob and Liz moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., but spent many summers at their Coates Island camp in Mallets Bay, Vt., surrounded by family.
Robert is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Holden Laidman, stepson and his wife William and Ann Sargent and just this year, a son-in-law that was really like another son to him, Ben Walton; one sister, Dorothy (Laidman) Howard.
Robert is survived by one brother, Alfred Laidman and spouse Gigi of Florida; one daughter, Pamela Walton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sons, Robert Laidman Jr. and spouse Cricket of N. Ferrisburg, Vt., Thomas Laidman and his spouse Kathy of Burlington, Vt., Andrew Laidman and spouse Kate of Bangor, Maine, Stuart Laidman and his spouse Vikki of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; grandchildren, Kim (Patrick) Kucway, Sharon Sams, Jessi (Jacob) Hoffman, Carrie (Mike) Wells, Seth Laidman, Suzanne (Matt) Guiggey, Liza and Marcee Laidman, Angie and Amanda Walton, Alex Laidman, and Holden Laidman, N.Y. and many great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service for both Liz and Bob in Colchester, Vt., at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in Robert's memory and service to our country may do so to: North Country Honor Flight, P.O. Box 2644, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
