Mary Elaine (Grabowski) Zajkowski Scott passed away at the age of 92 on Feb. 24, 2017, at the Morningstar Residential Care Center in Oswego, N.Y. Mary was born on June 10, 1924, in Newburgh, N.Y., to Paul and Joanna (Andryszak) Grabowski. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Chester A. Zajkowski, her second husband, Leonard Scott, and her siblings, Betty Conklin, Isabelle Plock, Viola Rutkowski, and John Grabowski. Mary is survived by her daughter, Marianne O'Hara and her husband Michael of Parish, N.Y.; her son, Robert Zajkowski and his wife Maureen of Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y.; her granddaughter, Aimee Mumford and her husband Paul of Parish, N.Y.; her grandsons, Aaron O'Hara of Parish, N.Y.; Keith O'Hara and his wife Kelly Szott of Richmond, Ind.; and Alex O'Hara and his wife Sandra Cronauer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and her great-grandsons, Liam and Evan Mumford and Arthur Szott O'Hara. She is also survived by her sisters, Cecilia McCarthy, Theresa Brzoska and Gertrude Donovan, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary moved to Plattsburgh in 1954 from Bayonne, N.J., when her husband Chet (and his brothers Simon, Henry, and Joseph) purchased what was then the Seven Up Plattsburgh Bottling Co. on Margaret Street. In her early years in Plattsburgh, Mary was active in civic organizations. She later became a dental assistant and worked for several years through the mid-1980s with Dr. Robert Kline, DDS. Mary will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her love of organizing events, and her joy in entertaining. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of one's choice.
