Julia's Story

Text size

Julia A. Holmes, age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at her home in Churubusco surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 10, 1939, to Andreas Joseph and Sheila Keena Andrews. Julia was involved with art and music all of her life. She followed in her father's path and became an artist. Julia studied art in college and began working for the National Geographic magazine. During this time she met Arnold "Arnie" Holmes whom she married and shared 54 beautiful years. She traveled with Arnie and their daughters in the military all over the United States. They eventually settled in Churubusco, N.Y. Here Julia was able to take a stained glass beginners kit Arnie had gifted her for Christmas one year and turn it into an incredible journey. Her perseverance and talent took her into many different places but is most evident in the North of Adirondack Artist Galley and the walls of the Malone Recreation Center at the park. She inspired many people from the children she worked with to her artist family and most recently her running club. Julia was known by many as a ball of energy and a powerful life source which she took into everything she did. She would walk into a room and light it up. She loved nature and all creatures great and small especially her rescue cats. Julia could be seen running and walking on Route 11 and enjoyed beginning her days with yoga. And for her running club - stop whining and get running!
Honoring and remembering Julia are her four daughters, Joann (Brian) Parent, Patricia Holmes, Christina (Mark) Seymour and Kathleen (Karl) Costin. She is also survived by her brother, Peter M. (Jenny) Andrews. There are nine grandchildren, Kaitlin Parent, Joseph and Sean Hyre, Angel (Timothy), Randi, Cameron (Darla) and Juliette Seymour, Kayleb and Kolin Costin. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Cheryl Andrews Holcomb, brother-in-law, Douglas (Louise) Holmes and Uncle John "Jack" (Susan) Keena and along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone who supported Julia in her final days by providing their presence and support.
