John Thomas Carey, 54, of Main Street, Champlain, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Plattsburgh Sept. 7, 1962, the son of William and Janet (LaFountain) Carey of Champlain, N.Y.
John was a graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central School and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Champlain. He worked as a self-employed handyman. John enjoyed wood-working, spending time at their camp at Chateaugay Lake and playing cards with family and friends.
His loving family includes his parents, William and Janet Carey of Champlain; his sisters and brothers, Pat Carey of Rouses Point, Kate and Stan Desautels of Webster, Fla., and West Chazy, Bill and Anne Carey of Rouses Point, Dan and Gail Carey of Rouses Point, Rita and Mike Fay of Palm Coast, Fla., Jim and Kathy Carey of Champlain, and a special friend, Coleen Vance of Rouses Point. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
John was predeceased by a sister, Georgiana Carey, in 1963; and a brother, Frank Carey, in 2012.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday July 20th at the M B Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday, July 21 at St. Mary's Church, 86 Church Street, Champlain, with a gathering of family and friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Champlain following the Mass. A graveside service will be held for John at 11 AM on Saturday, July 22 at St. Mary's Cemetery, also in Champlain.
