Ida M. LaCount, 94, of Champlain passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at Meadowbrook Healthcare. She was born on April 13, 1923 in Champlain, N.Y. to William and Helen Rivers. She married Nelson LaCount of Champlain, N.Y. Oct. 6, 1940, whom passed away Oct. 2, 1988.
They had four children, Robert LaCount and his wife Veronica of Champlain, N.Y., William LaCount and his wife Catherine "Midge" (predeceased) of Ellenburg, Evelyn Garrow and her companion Dick Staley of Saranac, N.Y., Arthur LaCount and his companion Ursula Rocheleau of Champlain, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Randy and Mary Jo LaCount of Mooers, N.Y., Neil and Tracy LaCount of Champlain, N.Y., Lonny and Tina LaCount of Rouses Point, N.Y., Garvin and Lorie Begore of Chateaugay, N.Y., Michael and Becky LaCount of Columbia, S.C., Jackie Lafountain of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., Steve and Julie Garrow of Mooers, N.Y., Dan and Krystol Barriere of Chazy, N.Y., Jeff and Michelle Garrow of Champlain, N.Y., Tim LaCount of Champlain, N.Y., Rich and Bonnie Houghton of Champlain, N.Y.; her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Adam LaCount, Jillian and Olivia LaCount; Isabella LaCount; Garrett Begore, Madeline LaCount, Corey and Bailey Lafountain, Ashley Brunell, Stephanie LaValley and Stevie Garrow, Jordan and Joshua Barriere, Dylan Garrow, Alex, Caitie and Dylan Houghton; her great-great grandchildren, Mason, Kinsley, Jace, Carter, Luke, Lane and Vaida. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Henry LaCount; her daughter-in-law, Irene Fresn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ida was predeceased by her parents; her twin sister, Lena Bourget; younger sister, Gladys Perna; and many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws whom she adored along with a son-in-law, Russell Garrow. She was recently predeceased by a loving niece, Carol Duquette, her bingo partner and good friend.
Ida had a love for life and always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed crocheting, going to the casino, playing cards with her family, her multiple trips to Florida and most of all cooking for her family and friends. She was an amazing Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and friend. She will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and her heart of gold.
We would like to thank her granddaughter, Karen Bechard for her weekly visits and all her caregivers at Meadowbrook Healthcare for making her last days comfortable.
Per Ida's wishes, there will be no calling hours or mass. There will be a burial service on Wednesday, Sept. 20th at 11 a.m. at St Mary's Cemetery on Prospect Street in Champlain.
Arrangements are in the care of the Ross Funeral Home.
