Helen L. Rigsby, 92, of Sandra Avenue, and formerly of Decatur, Ill., passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the home of her daughter.
Helen was born in Decatur, Ill., on Dec. 19, 1924, the daughter of Joseph A. and Mary E. (Rucker) Davey.
She attended and graduated from the Stephen Decatur High School. At the age of 17, Helen went to work at A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company, a processor of corn and starch products since 1898. She was the Order Processing Supervisor and retired after 43 years of service.
Helen married Clifford Rigsby on Oct. 15, 1950, at Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ill. Clifford passed away on April 26, 2014.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a member of the Ballroom Dancers of Decatur for 20 years, and was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur. She attended Bread of Life Baptist Church in Plattsburgh. Helen loved being a faithful participant in her Church Sunday School Group. She also enjoyed her years of ballroom dancing with her husband, and she loved spending time with all of her wonderful friends, but above all else, she loved the time she spent with her family.
Helen lived her life in Decatur, Ill., for 89 wonderful years and following the passing of her loving husband, moved to Plattsburgh, N.Y., to live with her daughter and son-in-law for the past three years. Helen believed on and received by faith the Lord Jesus Christ and is now secure with Him for all eternity.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn E. and Stephen R. Farrell of Plattsburgh; one sister, Donna Grove of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Ashley A. Gryder and husband Josh, Ryan A. Kirkpatrick and wife Susanne, and Joseph A. Kirkpatrick, all of Lynchburg, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Grayson and Addison Gryder and Owen Kirkpatrick; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a brother-in-law, John Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law, Guy and Gwen Rigsby, Fred and Dorothy Rigsby, Delmar and Mary Rigsby, Chuck and Betty Rigsby, and a sister-in-law, Neta Schroeder, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 14, at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur, Ill. For all wishing to attend, a luncheon will follow at Peerless Training Center, 1304 N. 20th Street, Decatur.
