Helen M. Fish, 93, of North Main Street, St. Regis Falls and formerly of Willsboro, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 3, 2017, at her residence under the loving care of her son and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Willsboro, March 27, 1924, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret (Christian) Mero. Helen grew up in Willsboro and attended Willsboro Central School. She married Henry F. Fish, April 14, 1942 at St. Philip of Jesus in Willsboro. He predeceased her April 22, 1999.
In the 1960's, Helen worked as the school cashier in the cafeteria at Willsboro Central School. She later worked for Reader's Digest in Pleasantville, N.Y. for 15 years prior to retiring in 1986. She was a past president and former member of the Catholic Daughters in Willsboro. Helen loved her Catholic Faith, was very devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and said her Rosary every day.
In her younger years she enjoyed making her clothes, but her true love in life was making others feel special. She would frequently wish others to "have the best day you've ever had". She considered everyone special. Helen will be remembered fondly for her unending sweetness and love toward others, especially her beloved son. She also enjoyed oil painting and was an excellent artist and at one time even taught an art class.
Left to cherish the memory of Helen are, her son, Father Alfred H. Fish of St. Regis Falls; brother, Roy Mero of Naples, N.Y.; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Walter Baumann of Willsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Lyman and Charles Mero; and sisters, Grace Maddaloni and Mary Jean Sprague.
Relatives and friends may call from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Philip of Jesus Church in Willsboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with her son, Rev. Alfred H. Fish, celebrating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro.
Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
