Harry's Story

Harry A. Shufelt Jr., 84, of Sonya Way, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Albany, April 14, 1932, the son of Harry A., Sr. and Mary (Lobdell) Shufelt. He grew up in Voorheesville and graduated from Clayton A. Bounton High School in Voorheesville. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, prior to his honorable discharge in 1954.
Harry was an active member of the Keeseville United Methodist Church and served as Financial Secretary, and was on the Scholarship Committee. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1493 in Voorheesville, and was a former member of the Elks. He was still active with the Former Crew Members of the USS Joseph P. Kennedy.
Left to cherish the memory of Harry are, his children, Amy Jo Shufelt Alberts of Peru, and Barry Craig Shufelt of Fairfield, Conn.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Le and husband David, Gail Shufelt, Eric Shufelt, Joelle Ziele and husband Gary, and Amanda Shufelt and husband Jim Stallmer; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Juliyanna, and Jaycee; and close cousin, Bette Aker; and former daughters-in-law, Laurie Gilgallon Kreiger, and Sophie Shufelt.
In addition to his parents; he was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Joan Shufelt; son, Paul Manning Shufelt; and former wife, Joan Kay Hill.
At Harry's request there will be no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Keeseville United Methodist. Burial will be held at a later date in the Evergreen Memorial Park in Schenectady.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville United Methodist Church.
