H Daniel's Story

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - H. Daniel Froehlich, 78, of Litchfield Park, Ariz., and formally of Peru, N.Y., died June 1, 2017 in Phoenix.
He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., June 1, 1939 to Henry A. Froehlich and Margaret Leclerc. Being in a military family, he attended grade school and junior high at Our Lady of Victory Academy here in Plattsburgh, but spent his high school years in Germany and then graduated from Ann Arundle High School in Maryland.
He served in the USAF from 1958-1963, entering Wadhams Hall Seminary in Ogdensburg, N.Y., in 1963 upon his honorable discharge from the military. Later he went to SUNY Plattsburgh, and Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh, N.Y., graduating with a degree in computers.
He joined the Plattsburgh Fire Dept. in July, 1965, serving for 29 years and retiring as Captain. He owned and operated DF Carpet Installation for 24 years and Computer Help 4U for 7 years, servicing Clinton County Townships and numerous area schools. He and his wife,Karen, also ran After Hours, a non-alcoholic nightclub for those under 21, in the mid-80's.
Dan served as RCIA Director, Eucharistic Minister, on the Parish Council and was a member of the choir of St. Augustine's Parish in Peru. In addition, he completed the two year Faith Formation Program. He also mentored numerous young men in the skill of floor goods installation, taught computer workshops at Clinton Community College and was a life long member of Knights of Columbus. In addition, he was a founding member of K of C #5000 in Hawaii. Dan also belonged to the American Legion Ariz., 0061.
He met his wife of almost 53 years, Karen Manor Froehlich in 1964 during the Sesqui-centennial Battle of Plattsburgh Celebration. He and Karen moved to Litchfield Park in 2003 where he served at St. Thomas Acquinas Church in RCIA, was a Eucharistic Minister and was on the Faith Formation Committee. He was a member of Miles Christi.
Dan is predeceased by his parents, and two brothers: Richard Froehlich and David Froehlich. He is survived by his wife Karen; and their four children, Kara McBrayer (Don) of Peru, N.Y.; Daniel H. Froehlich (Christine) of Phoenix, Ariz.; Lt. Col. Erik J. Froehlich (Juliann) of Fairfax, Va., and Lara Varden (Scott) of Potsdam, N.Y.; one sister Suzanne Abbruzzi; one brother Frederick Froehlich; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A Requiem Mass was held July 8 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Phoenix. There will be a Memorial Mass and Reception at 1230 pm on July 1, 2017 at St. Augustine Church in Peru, N.Y., A private burial with family will be held later in Phoenix Military Cemetary
