Floyd N. Demarais Sr., of the Plank Road, Ellenburg Depot, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
He was born in Ellenburg, June 5, 1937, the son of Noah and Irene (LaFlore) Demarais.
He attended Ellenburg Central School. Floyd served in the U.S. Navy, and returning home, he worked for and later retired from the State of New York. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a passion for gardening. Floyd particularly enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl Daley and her husband, Bruce of Altona, and Floyd Demarais Jr. and his wife, Robin of Ellenburg Depot; two brothers, Carl Demarais and his wife, Virginia of Wassaic, N.Y., and Robert Demarais and his wife, Ann of Colton, N.Y; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Demarais of Armenia, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Jessica Gilmore and her husband, Kelley, Sean Daley and his wife, Chelcie, Deborah Roberts and her husband, Kenny, Kyle Demarais and his wife, Shantel, Justin Demarais, Jonathan Demarais, and Joshua Demarais; twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was pre-deceased by his wife, Shirley; one brother, Harold Demarais; and two sisters, Beulah Ashline and Rena Rabideau.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 20, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at St. Edmund's Church, 5526 St. Rt. 11, Ellenburg Center, with the Rev. Garvin J. Demarais, Ret., celebrating. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Mausoleum, Ellenburg Depot.
