Edmund's Story

passed away at Elizabethtown Community Hospital surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. With several years of failing health, he was supported by his family who loved him.
He was born on August 5, 1921 in LaColle Canada to Emille and Sylvania. He was the 3rd oldest of 13 children. Edmund was raised in Ellenburg, N..Y, and moved to Mineville at 19 years old and work at Republic Steel Iron Ore Mines for 41 years. He was the last miner to work there. At 21 years old, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Greenland for 2 years as an Army Engineer. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he returned to Mineville and resumed working at Republic Steel. This is where he met the love of his life, Elsie Bobbie.
They were wed on Sept. 26, 1946. They had 5 children, Priscilla, Carolyn, Marylin, Edmund Jr. and Karen. After 49 years of marriage, Elsie passed on May 6, 1995.
He is predeceased by his oldest daughter, Priscilla DesRoche; grandson, Glenn Cliche; son-in-law, Mike Cliché; and 11 of his siblings. He is survived by John DesRocher, Carolyn & Randy Gadway, Marylin Cliche, Edmund Trombley II, Karen & David Burke; and grandchildren, Jeff, Valerie, Chris, Leslie, Jeremy, Toni, Shannon, Edmund III, Jessie, Holly, Marci, Jenna, Alexa, Mariah, and 16 great-grandchildren. He has one living sibling, Floyd Trombley.
Ed lived a great life with a lifelong passion for hunting, camping, horseshoes, reading and crossword puzzles. Best of all, he loved sitting in his garage having a cold one with many friends and family. He enjoyed spending time with his dear friend Joan. He was the Union President for Republic Steel, volunteer fireman, member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus.
The wake for Edmund will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Harland's Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at All Saints Church in Mineville, N.Y. Reception location will be announced at the Church.
