Dorothy's Story

Dorothy Mills LaBelle, 95, of Depot Street, Chateaugay, N.Y., passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, April 22, 2017, at The Alice Center, in Malone, N.Y.
Born in Chateaugay, NY., June 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Brooks C. and Mary Quenelle Mills. She graduated from Chateaugay High School. During her twelve years of school, she had perfect attendance.
On August 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Louis LaBelle, at St. Patrick's Church, in Chateaugay, N.Y. He predeceased her on May 24, 1984.
She was a bookkeeper for the Farmers National Bank, in Chateaugay, NY., for many years. She was also a writer for the Chateaugay Record Newspaper for numerous years, her column was known as "As I See It".
Dorothy was a very talented prolific writer and poet and had many poems and stories published in several magazines including Mature Living, Catholic Digest, and Readers Digest. At the age of seventeen, she had her first book of poetry titled "Philosophy and Poetry" published.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, in Chateaugay, NY. Along with her husband, they were long time members of the Malone Golf and Country Club. She was a life member of the Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Bruce P. LaBelle; four brothers and five sisters in law, James F. and Mary Louise Mills, Justin W. and Agnes Mills, Bernard and Ethel Mills, and Lawrence and Fannie and Mary Mills; four sisters and brothers in law, Mildred and Bernard Humiston, Gladys and John Joseph Fayhee, Margery and J. Arthur Jones and Grace and Robert Smith.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 am on Wednesday May 3, 2017, at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home, in Malone, N.Y. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, in Chateaugay, N.Y.
